You shouldn't jump down stairs with your hands in your pockets.

The French American School of Arizona welcomes children ages 2 to 6 during the first school year.

The curriculum has been developed both in French and English to comply with the American syllabus and the French academic program.

The French American School of Arizona places a strong emphasis on the acquisition of both the English and French vocabulary.

All activities are conducted in age-appropriate groups as well as on an individual basis. The children will have the opportunity to work within their own age group as well as interact with children of varying ages to learn and grow. The programs used are focused on building general knowledge, language skills and awakening of creativity in the child.

The curriculum is based on monthly themes focusing on the different cycles of the year, animal kingdom, countries and people of the world, local events and exhibitions. This allows the children to learn things that are both familiar to them and their family as well as learn about the more global world in which they live. Children are encouraged to be active learners and even at a young age are able to appreciate the rich environment around them.

Outside guests will be invited to share important concepts with the children. Topics such as safety (Fire, Police), special trade (how bread is made, why should I brush my teeth), Arizona wild life and history will be incorporated into the curriculum to bring the real world to the children.

Preparation for spelling, reading and mathematics will be conducted in small group activities.  Age-appropriate methods and techniques will be used for both the French and English programs.

To help in the science program, children will have access to a science lab. In the lab, the children can observe, manipulate and verbalize what they discover, in a fun although pedagogic environment. Young children love science and we strive to bring what can often be a complicated topic to the children in a manner that they can appreciate.

During art and craft activities, children can give free rein to their imagination and creativity by using the available tools such as easels, paints, crayons, markers and glue. For projects based on a specific theme, the children will be guided and coached by the teacher. Music, dance or drama will help the children in learning self-esteem and communication skill.

Physical activities also play a very important role in the evolution and education of the children. Games and activities such as running, jumping, pulling, throwing, and catching will help the children gain balance and physical awareness. Free play as well as organized activities will be incorporated.
